The pot was made in January when I visited Stoke Prior Primary.

Each member of YR6 attached a modelled self portrait onto a wet pot made infront of the whole school during assembly.

The pot was presented as a gift to the African school, twinned with the Herefordshire Primary.

Pedal power http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/pedal-power/ http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/pedal-power/#comments Fri, 14 Mar 2014 19:52:20 +0000 http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/?p=9379 One of our pottery workshop participants owns this lovely foot powered potters wheelThis photo was sent in from one of the participants who took part on the February potter’s wheel workshop. The lovely old kick wheel sits at home, in the garden, used only when the elements allow – fare weather potting for sure! Still, it’s greatly admired for its ornamental quality through-out the winter months.

All the February workshop participants either owned a wheel or had access to one – which is a rarety in itself as the majority of would be potters have very little prior experience of working on the potters wheel. All used the opportunity to fine tune thier skill and pick up a few handy tips. The potter’s wheel is most definately a ‘riding a bike’ thing and once you’ve done a bit, mechanical memory takes hold. The results were amazing as you might expect. Photos from the day here.

Basically, small groups can hire a wheel between two participants and take turns to make pots for an hour and a half.

The first customers to take us up on the offer visited the studio to celebrate a 50th Birthday. Three couples had great fun making shapes and watching each other spin wet clay.

More photos from the potter’s wheel workshop here.

Sunrise over Bradford http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/sunrise-over-bradford/ http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/sunrise-over-bradford/#comments Wed, 22 Jan 2014 19:47:58 +0000 http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/?p=9165 Jon the potter from Eastnor Pottery travelled to Bradford to work with children at Allerton Primary schoolSlightly out of my jurisdiction I know, but I spent three very busy days at the two form entry Allerton Primary School in West Yorkshire. I got to work with all of the 400 or so pupils making a variety of collaborative and individual works. Once all the creative offerings have been fired, I’ll take a few photos and publish them right here on this blog.

Made a couple of ‘figure-head’ terracotta sculptures with the young artists at LPS Nursery in the last session before the Christmas holidays.

The Nursery children are sometimes split into two groups for communal activities such as story time and snack – Kipper the dog and Elmer the Elephant representing each group.

I’ll be back at the school in January to carry on the clay/language project with the afternoon children and their parents. Looking forward to it!

Bishop’s Cleeve Primary School Monsters! http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/bishops-cleeve-primary-school-monsters/ http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/bishops-cleeve-primary-school-monsters/#comments Wed, 18 Dec 2013 15:22:34 +0000 http://eastnorpottery.co.uk/?p=8991 Pottery monster made by pupil at Bishops Cleeve Primary SchoolRest assured they certainly were not!

Had a lovely morning working with Year 3 last week helping them to make clay monsters.

The School declares it’s the only Primary School In Gloucestershire with a dedicated Arts Development Officer and the results are clear to see if you take a tour of the building. The corridors and halls are festooned with some pretty amazing artworks either facilitated or organised by Yr6 Teacher and Arts specialist Mrs Parkes. It’s a joy to behold and I always look forward to my visits.
