Pottery frog

pottery frog made by couple who dropped in for a clay lesson at eastnor potteryKelly and Kevin spent a creative and industrious morning at the Pottery making clay models and trying the potter’s wheel. These frog and pacman inspired creations will look excellent once they have been fired and glazed, truly reflecting the care and effort lavished upon them by the visitors.

Afterwards the couple said some lovely things about their Eastnor Pottery experience on tripadvisor. Thanks guys!

Numeracy & clay lesson

pottery for parents from washwood heath nursery school who visited eastnor pottery in the west midlandsOn a very sunny Tuesday last week a group of parents from Washwood Heath Nursery School visited the pottery. Their mission, to investigate ways of communicating numeracy through working with clay.

The session was booked by the incredibly creative Nursery School ahead of its annual maths week. The visitors made simple 3d shapes, counted clay balls and measured clay coils, all very simple techniques designed to be shared at home with their children.

There was also an hour or so after lunch for everybody to take turns on five potter’s wheels. Great way to round up a brilliant clay session.

Driving skill

clay delivered from valentines clay products to eastnor pottery herefordshireHuge respect to Barney the delivery man who managed to negotiate a lorry the size of Bristol through a crowded Pottery car-park. He then managed to tail lift and pump truck the eleven hundred dead weight of Valentines finest right to our door. What a craftsman, man & machine in perfect harmony!

Children’s pottery themes

pottery lessons for children at eastnor pottery herefordshireIn my capacity as The Flying Potter if I’m not delivering workshops, I’m usually travelling to or from the venue. The other day I’d arrived at a Children’s Centre in Birmingham, set up in plenty of time and found myself in the rare position of having time on my hands.  I took the opportunity to muse and plan all the themes for our children’s pottery workshops that take place every school holiday.

So here they are!:

Easter hols – 10 & 11 April – ‘DRAGON’S DEN’ (make and paint)

May ½ term  – 29 & 30 May – ‘STRAWBERRIES  & CREAM’ (potters wheel)

Summer hols – 24 & 25 July – ‘BEACH HUT’ (make & paint)

Oct ½ term – 30 & 31 October  – ‘LIGHT HOUSE’ (potters wheel)
