Once all the lovely things our customers make have dried thoroughly, they are subjected to what’s known as a bisque firing. The pots are in the kiln for approx. 24hrs. Once the kiln has been unpacked the individual pieces are carefully dipped into a large bucket of glaze (a suspension of un-melted glass particles in water) Once they’ve had their bottoms lovingly wiped to avoid them fusing to the kiln shelves, they are packed into the kiln and taken up to temperatures averaging around 1080 degrees. A couple of days later, the pots emerge from the kiln bright & shiny ready or collection or dispatch – PHEW!
