Clay at Claverdon

I’ve been working with the staff and children at Claverdon Primary School in Warwickshire this week, creating a giant tile panel for their new reception area.

Such an art work serves as an excellent, permanent reminder of the benefits of collaboration and creativity. On this occasion the reason for the project taking place had a much more profound significance for the school.

Tragically, one of their pupils, Molly, passed away last year after a long illness. The family,children and staff wanted to celebrate her life with a commemorative and fun project.

We made a beautiful oak tree in a field of grass and clover with colourful butterflies (Molly’s favorite) circling around the leaves and branches.

Pottery hen party at Eastnor Pottery

pottery hen party at eastnor pottery herefordshireIt’s pottery hen party season again at Eastnor Pottery!

These lovely ladies (and a couple of mini potters for good measure!) spent a relaxing afternoon making and painting coil-pot creations in the studio.

Their ceramic masterpieces will be fired, glazed and returned to the group in time for Emily the hen to distribute on her big day.

Clay hybrids at Bishops Cleeve Primary School

what do you get if you cross a snail with a giraffe and a bag of clay?Having worked with Bishops Cleeve Primary School back in the Autumn, I was pleased and privileged to return to work with Yr5 this week. last time I potted with yr2 and we made an impressive army of terracotta Roman soldiers. this time each pupil made an individual creature made up of different animals – so a pig & fish hybrid became a ‘pish’ etc…

The project clearly captured the children’s imagination and they made and painted some fantastical magical beasts. I particularly enjoyed the simplicity of this snail/giraffe combo – a snaiaffe or girail I guess?

A fine terracotta catch

This fine catch is the result of jon the potter from eastnor pottery working with the children and staff at sleadefield primary school in birminghamTime to deliver these fine terracotta collaborative fish me thinks! – (having way too much fun with them)

These creations were made by the fantastic children at Sladefield Infants School in Birmingham. I worked with all 240 pupils over two days with 30 children creating a fish from start to finish within the hour. Phew!
