Evie, a yr 10 student from Pershore High School joined us last week for work experience. She spent three days accompanying me in schools in Hereford and Ledbury and the rest of the time making bit’s and pieces at the studio. It was a delightful experience with Evie demonstrating employable levels of motivation, maturity and initiative. Here she is with a couple of terracotta clay birds she modelled as example pieces for our ‘bird bath’ children’s workshops this week.

Big birthday bash
Angus and 20+ of his classmates descended on the Pottery at the weekend to celebrate his 6th birthday. Lovely, lovely session made even more enjoyable by the number of parents who stayed and joined their children on their creative journey. The children all attend the Steiner Academy Hereford School where creativity is of paramount importance in all aspects of the curriculum.
We’ve captured some of the making on a series of photos – please take a look at the photo album on our facebook page.
Vale of Evesham School vist
Once a year, around this time the Vale of Evesham special school pay a visit to the Pottery to make things for mothering Sunday. On this occasion the group of nine students made and painted clay mugs for their mums. Once the mugs were completed and the clay tidied away a hearty picnic was shared out, washed down with tea, cake and fresh coffee.
It’s always a lovely session and one both Sarah and myself look forward to -It’s a privilege to share our pottery skills with such an intimate and interested group of young people.
I’ve always wanted to do this…
…is something we hear a lot at Eastnor Pottery & The Flying Potter. Saturday was no exception as Sue got to sample the delights of making a pot on the potter’s wheel for the first time. Her grown up children purchased a taster, drop-in potter’s wheel session as part of her 60th birthday celebrations. Sue grasped the technique immediately and threw a fine pot which she left with us to be fired and glazed.
