Busy Friday

some of our drop-in pottery workshop participants at Eastnor PotteryI had every intention of spending last Friday in last minute preparations for the brilliant Just So Festival at Rode Hall in Cheshire. Best laid plans & all! We were absolutely inundated with drop-in workshop participants, all eager to try their hand at pottery. Have a look at the pictures here. It was a lovely day though with a creative and enjoyable atmosphere in the studio….just went on a little after our wonderful guests had departed!

We’ve met before?

Pottery making workshop led by Jon Williams from Eastnor Pottery at Worcester Museum and Art Gallery all about canopic jars and ancient EgyptI’ve been delivering occasional pottery workshop sessions at Worcester Museum & Art Gallery for as long as I can remember. This young lady made a princess castle with me at one such session a couple of years ago. Lovely to see her ‘all growed up’ having a go at a canopic jar on an Ancient Egyptian themed clay session in the Summer hols. We also appeared in the Worcester Evening News.Princess castle made from clay

Park Hall Junior & Infants holiday club

Clay alien in a pot made by child at holiday club in Walsall schoolRub a dub dub clay stuff in a tub! Simple idea, each child made a pot on the potter’s wheel and then filled it with clay models. Flowers in a vase, sailor’s in boats and alien’s in the hole!

I left the children in Walsall with their creative clay efforts, the idea being that they could treat them like air dried clay and paint them with acrylic paint.

Creepy Clay at Walmley Library

Pottery workshop in Walmley library led by Jon Williams the Flying PotterThe Summer Reading Challenge organised by The Reading Agency is a brilliant way to get young readers to delve into the wonderful world of children’s literature. The scheme takes place every year during the summer holidays and young people sign up at their local library, then read six library books of their choice, collecting stickers and other rewards along the way – all for FREE.

The Challenge is always themed and this year ‘Creepy House’ provides the inspiration.

So it was I found myself at Walmley Library in Sutton Coldfield working with 40 youngsters and their parents making Creepy Clay sculpture. I think I managed to take a photo of everyone’s work?

Gina’s pottery hen party

Gina and her friends enjoy making pottery at Eastnor PotteryI’ve discovered the perfect way to ease oneself back into the working week after a fab Summer holiday in Cornwall – host a pottery hen party! Literally hours before Gina & co descended, I was sat on a Cornish beach enjoying near tropical conditions. The next thing I know, I’m surrounded by 15 lovely people chatting, making pottery and enjoying the creative atmosphere of the studio. I love my job!

Here’s what the girls had to say: “We had the most fantastic time and it was the perfect way to end the weekend after the spa and the ABBA party on Saturday! It was so lovely and relaxing to absorb ourselves in creativity.  Something we should all do more often in our busy lives! Gina loved it and said she couldn’t think of a more perfect way to spend time with all the girls that meant so much to her so thank you for your time and patience with us – we do like to talk! I had a look on your facebook page and forwarded the link to Gina to share – photos look great!  I got some good ones that you might like too. I’ll definitely be recommending you to friends and family and would love to come and visit the pottery again.”
