Inaugural pizza oven firing

Clay pizza oven built in the garden at Eastnor PotterySeeing as they helped build it, we thought it only right and proper the children from Bubbles Nursery came and cooked pizza on our bread oven when we fired it up for the first time just before Christmas.

We provided a batch of bread dough and Bubbles came armed with pizza toppings – pinapple, cheese, ham – all sorts of yummy stuff.

Although the weather did it’s best to dampen proceedings, (Ethan was out there for hours fanning the flames!) the oven finally reached temperature and the children managed to crisp up a fine cheese ‘n’ pinnapple flat bread.

Mother’s day is only a month away and to celebrate, young potter’s aged 4yrs and up are invited to drop by and make a gift on the potter’s wheel for that special lady in their life.

The creative outcomes will be fired and ready for collection from the Pottery in good time for Mother’s Day.

Pottery birthdays for all ages

In the last few weeks we’ve hosted no end of adult and family groups celebrating 30th, 40th, 50th and 70th birthdays. Often the groups have been made up of grandparents, parents and grandchildren, such is the intergenerational appeal of clay. Here’s a selection of photos from the most recent batch:

LPS Nursery clay project continued…

EYFS artist Jon Williams works with Ledbury Primary School NurseryHaving worked with the morning Nursery group before the Christmas break, it’s now the turn of the PM potters at Ledbury Primary School Nursery to work with clay.

One of my favourite introductory activities is unloading a 12.5kg lump in the middle of the table, stand well back and just see what the clay hungry youngsters do.

Loving the aesthetics of this finger deep texture created by many grabbing hands.

Pottery teambuild

Pottery team building activityJust before Christmas we were contacted by a local care home in search of a short but creative activity to help bond and cement relations between staff.

Having a considerable amount of experience in these matters, we were able to offer the organisation a 1.5 hr session where they worked together to build a sizeable, collaborative, terracotta pot encrusted with work related decoration.

Great fun with some of the staff discovering a hidden talent for ceramics.

Once the lidded pot has been fired, it will be returned to the clients place of work to serve as a permanent reminder of what can be achieved by effective teamwork.
