60th birthday surprise

Enfys enjoyed making pots on the potter's wheel for her 60th birthday celebrationEnfys had no idea she would be making pottery as part of her 60th birthday celebrations. Her family had managed to keep the potter’s wheel session a complete surprise, even when she was aproaching the Pottery entrance she had no inkling of what she would be doing inside.

Her son Chris had arranged for the nine adults to have a wheel each for the three hour session – plenty of time to get to grips with the technique and everybody succeeded in making some mighty fine shapes and pots.

Educational work with schools

Collaborative pots made by birmingham school children and Ethan from Eastnor PotteryAs always, the Spring and Summer school terms are extremely busy for Eastnor Pottery and the Flying Potter.

We visit approximately 2-3 educational settings a week sharing the many benefits of working with clay with literally thousands of children and young people in and around the West Midlands.

Since Christmas we have worked with the following schools:

Ledbury Primary – exploring communication and literacy via clay & pottery

Washwood Heath Nursery – EYFS play with clay.

St Benedicts, Birmingham – Exploritary potter’s wheel sessions

Staunton on Wye - cups & saucers with YR 5&6

Vale of Evesham School - Coil pots for Mother’s day

Marlbrook, Hereford – Individual Buddhas

Woodlands Infants, Solihull – Clay dinosaurs with Reception

Chuckery Primary, Walsall – Greek coil pots YR3

Stanley Rd, Worcester – Show Garden for Malvern Spring Show

Prince Alberts, Birmingham – Spring collaborative pots and individual works

Lea Forest, Birmingham – Collaborative terracotta planters with whole school (260 children!)

Phew!!!! No doubt we’ll be coming to a school near you after the Easter break!

Popular hen party alternative

Creative and relaxing hen party solution in HerefordshireHmm, hen parties and clay – the mind boggles thinking about the sort of shapes that might get created!

I’m pleased to report that the hundreds of pottery hen parties we have hosted at Eastnor Pottery have been extremely civilised affairs with groups of ladies creating wonderful clay work and tasteful ceramic sculpture.

The lovely group we had in on Saturday were a prime example of the creative souls who frequent the studio. The hens took the pinch pot technique in all kinds of directions making a variety of pots, sculpture and wheel work.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit!

Clay rabbit workshops at Eastnor Pottery during Easter holidays 2015Thank you to all the young potters who turned out for our themed children’s workshops in the Easter holidays. What a lot of lovely, colourful bunnies you created!

Photos of the fun can be found here.

Our next children’s workshops take place Wed 27 May in half term and are entitled ‘Dad’s a mug!’. Participants will have a turn on the potter’s wheel to create a mug which we’ll fire in time for Father’s day on the 21 June.
