Ethan does raku

Pots made by Ethan from Eastnor Pottery firing in Raku style workshop

Ethan recently sampled the delights of RAKU firing with our friend and fellow potter Bill Moore  in North Somerset. We first met Bill as undergraduate ceramics students. Sarah and myself studied at Bath, whilst Bill developed his potting skills down the road at Bristol. Post graduation we used to employ Bill’s exceptional throwing skills if we had a large order of pots to full-fill. Details of Bill’s classes can be seen by visiting his Clayability website.

This is what Ethan is what he had to say about his experience:

“I was immediately excited because ever since starting pottery as an apprentice here just over two years ago, I have had a fascination with the striking glazes that come from Raku firings. The day exceeded all my expectations tenfold. First of I have to thank Bill for giving me so much information throughout the day, and thanks to John as well as they were both such nice people to spend the day with. All of my pots despite a couple of breaks through the process came out better than I could of hoped for and will make fantastic gifts for my family at Christmas. These were by far my best pots to date and I want to keep them close to myself and family to cherish them for a long while as a reminder where I have started. I plan to keep exploring the huge world of raku glazing as its random effects and spectral range of colours are just what I want from a glaze. Unexpected results from an unexpected day.”

The Big Sensational Clay Sell-off!

Creative wall art by steve edwards

Had a lovely day at Bilston Craft Gallery at their annual garden party event. Not actually working with clay on this occasion but selling exhibits from my hugely successful touring Sensational Clay exhibition.

Steve Edwards a West Midlands basd graffiti artist was also present, adding a vibrant and colourful aspect to proceedings.

I still have a few pieces left if anybody is interested in purchasing a Jon Williams original at a discount price. Please email me at: admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk for further details.

I’m looking to sell all the exhibits from my solo, touring exhibition ‘Sensational Clay’ at a one off event – The Garden Festival at Bilston Craft Gallery in the West Midlands.

I’ll be offering all the pieces at a fraction of their original value, in fact everything will be priced between a bargain £5 and £30 – everything must go!

For those who didn’t have the opportunity to visit the exhibition in one of five venues across the West Midlands and beyond, missed out on an extravaganza of fired ceramic designed to stimulate the five senses. All the exhibits were made with visitor interaction in mind and as well as being accessible to touch, there were aromatic pieces, musical rattle pots and sculptural curios inspired by food and drink.

Sensational Clay was first exhibited at Bilston Craft Gallery in the Summer of 2011. The show proved so popular with  it’s intended family audience, the Gallery suggested it be offered to other venues as a touring resource. It went on to be exhibited at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester, Tulie House Museum & Art gallery in Carslile, Worcester City Museum & Art Gallery before it’s last outing at Leamington Spa Art Gallery in Warwickshire.

The Garden Festival starts at 2pm and is due to finish at 5pm but do hurry as the work won’t be around for long!
