Jack’s first week!

Jack working at the computer for apprenticeship with Eastnor PotteryIntroducing Jack, our brand new digital marketing apprentice. Jack, a local fella who has come to us via those lovely people at Creative Alliance based in Birmingham. Here’s what he had to say about his first week in Eastnor:

The first week of working with Eastnor Pottery and the Flying Potter, as part of a 12 month long apprenticeship in digital media marketing, has been very interesting as well as welcoming. The introduction into this new working environment has been relaxed and informative, which has given me a good understanding of the work undertaken by Eastnor Pottery, such as the many workshops and opportunities the business offers to individuals and organisations. I have already experienced a few workshops as part of the Early Hurly Burly scheme as well as helping to finalise the installation of Jon’s musical and ringing pottery pieces within Hereford. I’m looking forward to getting more stuck in with the work as time progresses, and I think I will thoroughly enjoy my time working here.

Flying Potter lands in the Castle!

Families work with the Flying Potter at Eastnor CastleWe’ve been supplying family pottery events for the magnificent Eastnor Castle for 15 years and really look forward to working with their visitors and staff. We work with hundreds of participants a day in the Castle Courtyard and usually take the opportunity to make a collaborative sculpture. In the past we have made owls, totem poles and last year a brace or two of terracotta pheasants.

This year we produced giant and collaborative t-cups and saucers in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The Castle are holding an Alice inspired event on the August Bank Holiday weekend and we’ll make sure the cups & saucers are available for visitors to marvel and enjoy. We will also ensure the magnificent collaborative T-pot made as part of the Ledbury Poetry Festival will make an appearance.Families of all ages collaborate for giant 150th anniversary tea set          Eastnor Pottery and all ages create small tiles for giant tea set for 150th Alice in Wonderland anniversary

Mad Potter’s T-Party

Alice in Wonderland themed tea set for 150th anniversary of Louis Carol's bookSarah spent x2 Saturdays in early July in the Walled Garden in Ledbury providing pottery workshops as part of the town’s international acclaimed Poetry Festival. It is the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Families had the opportunity to collaborate on a giant terracotta T-Pot with each participant who dropped by modeling an Alice inspired piece of t-pot decoration.

This is what Sarah had to say: “The first Saturday we formed the shape and the following week we embellished it. It was nice to see so many people who helped build the structure on day one, return the following week to contribute to the artwork.”

Shop window no more :(

no more fabulous eastnor pottery displays in Ledbury dry cleanersFor the past 15 years we’ve been fortunate to display our wares in the shop window of Priory Cleaners in Ledbury High Street. A prime spot for sure with locals and visitors enjoying the fruits of our pottery workshops and school projects in the centre of town.

Sadly, the dry cleaning firm has moved to new premises in the town without the expansive glass shop front . So it was with a heavy heart that we cleared our stuff and retreated to the Pottery showroom here in Eastnor.

We would like to thank the management at Priory Cleaners for the opportunity to exhibit for all these years and for Caroline for her curatorial expertise and stuardship.

We wish them all the success in their new shop.
