Pottery weekend in Herefordshire

pottery weekend workshop at eastnor pottery herefordshirepotters wheel weekend workshop at eastnor pottery herefordshireA couple of participants from our November ‘potter’s wheel’ weekend workshop.

The pair were incredibly productive and made some wonderful pots on Saturday. The quality of each pot was such they both had difficulty selecting pieces to turn and decorate on Sunday!

Wendy had travelled down from Yorkshire so painted like fury to finish her creations. Far from looking rushed, her pieces had a vitality and spontaneity – all the better for the speedy paint job. Mark’s solution (local lad) – a return trip to paint his masterpieces. His pots will be kept fresh in plastic until his return in December.

We have one final potter’s wheel workshop planned for 2011 – Sunday 11th December. If you would like to book a place please contact the Pottery. 01531 633886 or admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk

Check out our potter’s wheel workshop page for more details.

Andy’s 60th pottery party

Andy's 60th Birthday Party Group at Eastnor PotteryWe do our fair share of children’s birthday parties here at Eastnor Pottery. However, on saturday we had the pleasure of hosting a ‘grown up’ pottery party for Andy and his guests. Apparently, Andy was celebrating his 60th birthday, although he could have quite easily passed the event off as his 50th (what’s your secret Andy?!) and wanted to treat his guests to a unique experience – something really different.

No less than 19 party goers enjoyed making pots on the potter’s wheel as well as constructing and painting some pretty cool coil pots.

Some of the group were under the impression the three hour workshop was purely a clay experience and the only thing they would be making was a mess! They were genuinely surprised at their creative clay outpourings and thrilled at the prospect of recieving ceramic keep sakes in a few weeks time. Have a look at the results in our Facebook album.

If you have something to celebrate or comemorate as a clay experience please contact the Pottery. Tel 01531 633886 or email admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk

Bilston Craft Gallery & Woverhampton City Art Gallery came to play at the pottery on Monday. Fantastic session with the team producing some wonderful & very creative clay work. The extraordinary lettuce pot will go down in Eastnor Pottery folk law for sure! We’ve created a Facebook album of all the lovely photos of all the lovely people.

Creative Breaks at the Courtyard

Creative Breaks at the CourtyardCreative Breaks is an association of Herefordshire based artists and craftspeople who offer courses and workshops as part of their creative practice. As a founding member I have enjoyed the benefits of membership since it’s inception in the mid 90’s.

Each year, as a group we get to promote our services to visitors to the Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair at the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford. We set up stand in the Theatre foyer and take it in turns over the three days to demonstrate our art & Craft.

As in previous years I encouraged members of the public to sample the delights of making a pot on the wheel – no matter how old the visitor! See our Facebook album for more photos.

Greek myths & legend heads

ancient greek heads made from clay made at broadlands primary school hereford led by jon the potter from eastnorI spent a lovely morning in the company of Yr4 and their teachers at Broadlands Primary School in Hereford.

Each year, the children take part in a day’s worth of activities inspired by ancient Greece. In the morning it’s making pottery sculpture based on mythical beasts and Greek Gods. Then, after a Greek lunchtime feast, the afternoon is taken up with Olympic fun and games.

I really look forward to my annual session at Broadlands and the children make some wonderful creations, in fact, I managed to photograph each work of art and have created a photo album.
