Spent a lovely day working with students and staff at Westfield Special School in Leominster. The current, cross curricular theme in school is ‘who am I?’ and the topic presented the children with the opportunity to approach the clay in different ways. Some of the more able students made 3d self portraits using the coil pot technique whilst other groups felt the clay underfoot and mark made into soft slabs of clay.

Suits ‘n’ mud
In an attempt to spread a little mud love amongst the business fraternity, Eastnor Pottery and The Flying Potter took a stand at the Worcester Expo 2012 held at Six Ways Worcester Rugby Club.
Jon the Potter had a continuous stream of eager participants (probably the best dressed potter’s you’ll ever see?) each making their very own little clay pot on the potter’s wheel.
Mudrunning to work.
Having spent 2hrs and 7 miles face to face with Eastnor’s finest sludge (aka the brilliant #mudrunner ) it was straight back to work.
Forever the optimist, I thought the race would only take just over an hour (what was I thinking?!) and had booked a group in for a pottery workshop session in the afternoon. In practice, I had just about enough time to hop in & out the bath, jump on my bike and greet my guests at EP Central.
The participants were on holiday in Hfds celebrating Craig’s birthday (pictured with his x4 blue pottery shot glasses!) and were a delight to work with. In fact, sharing pottery techniques with the customers felt very relaxing and proved to be the perfect post race warm-down. Ah, the therapeutic delights of working with clay!
iwomen pottery
What better way to catch up with friends then over a nice cuppa and a bag of clay!
This group booked in for a couple of hours of pottery and clay fuelled fun on Monday morning. The girls are part of a larger group called iwomen and regularly get together to socialise and try something new. They had such a laugh I reckon they’ll be back in greater numbers to try their luck on the potter’s wheel. The opportunity to make some cake stands may prove to be an incentive for a return visit.
On this occasion the ladies created some stunning coil pots and t-light holders for us to fire and glaze, ready for collection in a few weeks time.
Tall oaks from little acorns grow
Worked with all 200 pupils at George Fentham Primary School in Hampton in Arden to produce an oak tree tile panel in celebration of their school motto “Tall oaks from little acorns grow”.
Pictured right: x3 talented artists from YR5 get to grips with the school emblem.
