Drop-in pottery

trio of clay animals made by three young visitors to eastnor pottery and the flying potter in herefordshireThese three happy potters wanted to make some pottery in the school holidays. Just so happened we’ve launched our drop-in family sessions aimed at the more casual Eastnor Pottery visitor.

Mum Louise rang up a few days before to book the girls in and the next thing they knew was they were producing an excellent clay trio of models comprising of penguin, bull and blue elephant creation. Good work you three!

Muddy ducks @mac

Spent a filthy couple of days working with young children and their families at the creative hub that is the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham.

We built x2 giant, exceptionally punky, muddy ducks from mud, clay, straw and sticks.

jon the potter worked with young children and their families at mac birmingham making giant muddy duck sculptureHere are just a few classic one liners from the children as they worked with the natural materials:

“dirty, dirty, dirty duck”“this is awesome” “cows eat straw”“this is like in the olden days” “we’re in the trees so that creates shade” “it’s like dinner, we have to cut it like dinner” “it will need eyes later on or it will be a blind duck” “fantastic Mr Duck” “I want to call it Micky” “look like its pregnant

and my favourite: “This is a terrible job but we’ve got to do it”

Here are the photos from Saturday and Sunday.

Olympic Gold at Eastnor Pottery

olympic gold children's pottery workshop at eastnor pottery and the flying potter west midlandsSo the Olympics are well and truely underway (man, that opening ceremony was something else!) Here’s some photos from our very own pre-games, clay warm-up at Eastnor Pottery last week.

Each young participant made a mini trophy celebrating pretty much what ever they wanted: Harry Potter, Mum & Dad, reading, fishing oh and a few Olympic games ones too!

They used the coil pot technique before painting their clay creations in a variety of coloured slips.

Once they’ve been fired and glazed here at the Pottery they will be availible to be collected in the next few weeks.
