Castles & dragons

a princesses clay castle made by a young potter at worcester museum and art gallery with jon the potter from eastnor pottery and the flying potterSpent a warm but enjoyable morning working with a group of children at Worcester Museum & Art Gallery.

They have a ‘Legends’ exhibition on at the mo and we used this as inspiration for the clay work. Artist Kate Brooks has built a huge dragon in one of the spaces vacated by the Library to celebrate the the local legend of Maud & the Dragon. We took a look at the giant monster before returning to the activity area to make our very own clay castles and dragons.

Washwood staff visit

teachers creative development day at eastnor pottery herefordshire1/2 the teaching staff from Washwood Heath Nursery School were released from duty last week for a day of clay enlightenment and pottery fun here in Eastnor.

The team got to design and make terracotta sculpture based upon the children’s interests and themes. Once fired, the various artworks will live in the school grounds, provocations for learning and play. Super heroes, princesses and monsters proved popular with some stunning collaborative beasties produced.

Once the ‘serious’ team building activity had been completed, it was time for the potter’s wheel – the group taking turns onfive available machines. Althoughmost had never been on the wheel before, everybody managed to make a pot to be proud of – as well as having oodles of fun!

Summer celebration at Bosbury Primary

terracotta model of dad made by a young artist at bosbury primary schoolThe Flying Potter worked with parents and pupils at Bosbury Primary School one evening last week to build a collaborative owl, celebrating the end of another academic year.

Once the owl had been coiled and the feathers attached this young lady found some time to make a model of dad – an uncanny likeness if ever I saw one!

Designed for living with clay

eastnor pottery and the flying potter offered visitors to the new designed for living show at hampton court castle and gardens, herefordshireThe Flying Potter set up stall at a new art & craft selling event called Designed for Living held last weekend at Hampton Court Gardens near Leominster.

Our task was to occupy young visitors and their families whilst the adults enjoyed the wonderful artist’s stands dotted around the lawns.

As well as working with some brilliant people in the children’s tent, it was good to catch-up with fellow creatives who were exhibiting their wares. Check out Adrian Higgins range of digital prints and Sharon McSwiney’s jewellery & metalwork.

Obligatory clay photos from the weekend can be viewed here.
