Jon the Potter St Thomas legacy

Terracotta collaborative plant pot in BirminghamFor the past 10 years or so I ‘ve been working regularly with the wonderful staff and visitors at St Thomas Children’s Centre in Birmingham.

The Centre boasts quite a collection of pots and ceramic curios made with participants of all ages and abilities and whilst I was there a few weeks ago, I took the opportunity to photograph a few of them in situ.

Ozzy old school

Jon the potter works at ozzy osbournes old primary schoolSpent three days working with the children and staff at Prince Albert Primary School in Birmingham. We made collaborative pots on the potter’s wheel with YR6 & YR3 and then finished off the residency with a fun and exploritary clay day in Nursery.

In the reception area there is a wall of photos of former pupils. It turns out a certain Mr Osbourne used to be a student at Prince Alberts back in the day. Apparently he still makes regular visits to chat to the children and staff – nice one Ozzy!

Pottery for parents

Nursery school parents from Birmingham visit Eastnor Pottery to make clay pots and sculptureAs part of my continuing work with the innovative & creative Washwood Heath Nursery school, a group of parents visited the studio to learn all about clay, pottery and Maths!

The Birmingham Nursery School offers its children a week of activities designed to explore numeracy within the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

The Pottery workshop for parents gives the adults an insight into how measuring, counting and comparing etc. can be easily incorporated into play, in this instance, with clay.

Terracotta tiled mud kitchen

terracotta tiles made for outside mud kitchen

Forest school Andy has been constructing a fabulous mud kitchen in the playground at Washwood Heath Nursery School in Birmingham. One of the children decided it would be a fantastic idea to make some terracotta artwork to tile the splash back area. So, thats just what we did! We ended up making 40 or so individual tiles decorated in the children’s models and drawing.

Washwood Heath have a super new website to.
