Back at Brearley

clay t pot made by nursery school staff in BirminghamDelighted to be back at the fantastic Brearley Nursery School in Birmingham. Spent a couple of sunny September afternoons a week or so ago, pottery teambuilding with the staff.

Teachers and TA’s were given the opportunity to brush up on their potter’s wheel skills as well as creating a collaborative colourful rainbow tile panel for the entrance hall.

They also hand built a tea-set for the children to play with in the class room. Here’s the brilliant T-pot drying out in the Pottery garden.

Festival of Cultures

Child has a go on the potter's wheel at Festival of Cultures at King EdwardsOne of the many highlights of my workshop year is the annual pilgrimage to King Edward VI School in Aston for their Festival of Cultures extravaganza.

I get to share my clay skills with the students throughout the day in a series of pottery workshops and then, in the evening, the whole place becomes a vibrant celebration of arts, culture and food from around the globe. Hundreds of parents and friends stream through the gates to enjoy the fare and entertainment. Great stuff.

I was based in the art room, offering visitors a go on the potter’s wheel.

Water of Life

Artist potter Jon Williams from Eastnor Pottery worked with staff and students at Birmingham University to create a tile panel for the Chaplaincy Worship roomCheck out this brilliant kingfisher tile made by a student at Birmingham University.

I was working with staff and students in the Uni’s chaplaincy, facilitating a ‘Water of Life’ ceramic wall panel designed to enhance the freshly painted multi-faith worship room.

The History of Art student who contributed this fine piece of clay work supplements her studies by painting miniture portraits. Further examples of her work can be seen on her facebook page.

More photos from the workshop sessions can be seen here.
