I’m looking to sell all the exhibits from my solo, touring exhibition ‘Sensational Clay’ at a one off event – The Garden Festival at Bilston Craft Gallery in the West Midlands.

I’ll be offering all the pieces at a fraction of their original value, in fact everything will be priced between a bargain £5 and £30 – everything must go!

For those who didn’t have the opportunity to visit the exhibition in one of five venues across the West Midlands and beyond, missed out on an extravaganza of fired ceramic designed to stimulate the five senses. All the exhibits were made with visitor interaction in mind and as well as being accessible to touch, there were aromatic pieces, musical rattle pots and sculptural curios inspired by food and drink.

Sensational Clay was first exhibited at Bilston Craft Gallery in the Summer of 2011. The show proved so popular with  it’s intended family audience, the Gallery suggested it be offered to other venues as a touring resource. It went on to be exhibited at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester, Tulie House Museum & Art gallery in Carslile, Worcester City Museum & Art Gallery before it’s last outing at Leamington Spa Art Gallery in Warwickshire.

The Garden Festival starts at 2pm and is due to finish at 5pm but do hurry as the work won’t be around for long!

Mud oven re-build

Clay oven built at washwood Heath Nursery School in BirminghamA few years back I had the good fortune to collaborate with ‘Forest School Fiona’ at Washwood Heath Nursery School in Birmingham. We worked with children, staff and parents to construct a magnificent bread oven in the playground.

The oven has been well loved and played with and was starting to look a little ‘tired’ to say the least!

Just before 1/2 term the children and myself demolished what was left of the original, soaked down and re-claimed the clay and promptly re-built the structure.

Washwood Nursery staff CPD

Fantastic pottery strawberry created by an early years teacher from BirminghamAlthough I’m a regular visitor to Washwood Heath Nursery School in Birmingham, I’m delighted when groups from the School come and work with me on the Eastnor Castle Estate. So far this year we have welcomed a mini-bus full of parents and last month, staff came and learnt about clay techniques as part of their INSET.

Loving this strawberry made by one of the participants.

Collaborative cooking pots

Collaborative clay cooking pots made by children at Brearley and Teviot Nursery School in BrumDelighted to be back working with the lovely children and staff at Brearley & Teviot Nursery School in Birmingham. We spent a creative and productive day working outside in the Spring sunshine making collaborative, terracotta cooking vessels.

Once the children’s work has been fired and glazed they will get to cook proper food in them during their forest school sessions in the great outdoors.

Educational work with schools

Collaborative pots made by birmingham school children and Ethan from Eastnor PotteryAs always, the Spring and Summer school terms are extremely busy for Eastnor Pottery and the Flying Potter.

We visit approximately 2-3 educational settings a week sharing the many benefits of working with clay with literally thousands of children and young people in and around the West Midlands.

Since Christmas we have worked with the following schools:

Ledbury Primary – exploring communication and literacy via clay & pottery

Washwood Heath Nursery – EYFS play with clay.

St Benedicts, Birmingham – Exploritary potter’s wheel sessions

Staunton on Wye - cups & saucers with YR 5&6
