Library learners sample clay

Clay coil pots made by adult learners at Herefordshire LibrariesRecently spent a brilliant morning in both Ledbury and Leominster Libraries, working with groups of adults who had signed up to a Terracotta Garden Pot workshop as part of Adult Learners week.

Children’s ½ term Holiday Pottery Sessions

Halfterm pottery workshop for children at Eastnor Pottery inspired by Roald Dahl's BFG‘BFG!’ Wed 1st June 2016

To celebrate the Summer cinematic release of Roald Dahl’s Big Friendly Giant (BFG), we’re inviting youngsters to participate in BFG inspired clay workshop sessions in the approaching half term holiday.

Children as young as 4yrs will each have the opportunity to model a 3D portrait of the BFG sculptured from real clay. The fun doesn’t end there as the young artists will be able to paint their creations, there and then with colourful slips and underglazes.

The resulting work will be left with us to be fired, glazed and ready for collection a few weeks later.

The 1.5 hr workshop sessions are designed to suit two age groups, (4-8yrs at 11.30am and 9-12yrs at 2pm) although younger or older siblings will never be turned away from either session. Places cost £15 per child (with a 10% discount for x3 or more places booked) and can only be reserved by telephoning 01531 633886 or email admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk

Voices & Visions 2016

It’s that time again for all the schools in Worcestershire to exhibit and take pride in all their creative exploits from the academic year.

Redditch Primary School works with Eastnor Pottery and Flying Potter to produce Ceramic Tile Panel

Voices and visions 2016 takes place at Worcester  Cathedral for the next three weeks and show cases all the artistic talent from the county’s schools and colleges.

We are proud to have partnered at least two Worcestershire Schools represented at this year’s show.

In April we worked with Holyoaks First School, Redditch and Bengeworth Academy, Evesham to help them realize some fantastic clay and ceramic art works.

Jon Williams the Flying Potter works with Bengeworth Primary School to make Dream Pots and Jars

We produced a couple of collaborative oak tree wall panels with Holyoaks with every child in the school making and painting a clay leaf.

The school did an excellent job of mounting the tiles on some rather wonderfully painted boards – good work you guys.

Return of the Potting Tent

The Potting Tent at Eastnor Pottery Returns for Large Groups and Hen PartiesThe last time the Potting Tent made a public appearance was at The Big Chill Festival. x4 foot powered potter’s wheels occupied a snug, well loved and incredibly retro family ridge tent circa the 1970’s. The tent fitted it’s purpose perfectly until it was retired and attic bound due to the sad demise of the Big Chill in 2013.

We are pleased to report The Potting Tent is back! bigger and brighter than ever before.

In a bid to accommodate the surge of Summer bookings we’ve purchased and erected a brand new marquee on the Pottery Lawn.

Although it’s only been up a few weeks, it’s already proved a massive hit with our customers, particularly large groups who choose to make pottery to celebrate their special occasion.

Here are some recent Facebook photo albums from three hen parties who have enjoyed the creative environment of the Potting Tent:

Grown-up families and potting partners

Family Group visit Eastnor Pottery learning to throw on the wheelWe have definately seen an increase in adult family groups choosing pottery as an excuse for a novel and creative intergenerational get together. Mums & Dads have been treating their grown-up offspring  just as much as the kids have been indulging their parents.

The groups have so much fun and enjoyment they regularly review their Eastnor Pottery experience on TripAdvisor. Here are some recent testimonials:

‘COME & TRY What a wonderfully relaxing experience. 7 adults made 20 or so pots on the wheel. Jon was the perfect teacher for us as mostly novices – teaching and encouraging with a fine sense of humour. He was very welcoming to our toddler and found him several sensory experiences to explore. The Pottery was lovely and warm. A bonus was that we never felt rushed – time stood still and in a month we’ll have our glazed masterpieces to prove our new found skills.’

‘FANTASTIC FAMILY FUN As a Christmas present, I treated my mother, sister and aunty as well as myself to a two day pottery course. Although at a hefty £215 per person, it was well worth every penny! Jon, the owner and teacher for the weekend was more than welcoming, very patient and a great host. Everybody gets there own potters wheel to work on and Jon guides you through each process over the two days. At the end, we were all allowed to keep upto 4 pots that are posted to you once fired. I highly recommend it as a group experience, fancy treat or a solo venture!’

‘A SUPERB FAMILY DAY ON THE POTTERS WHEEL A fantastic family day learning how to throw a pot upon the potters wheel. Jon Williams and his team were so welcoming. Ethan was fantastic and so knowledgeable, he worked with us throughout our experience, introducing us to the potters wheel and guiding us with extreme patience through the ‘how to’ on the wheel….every tip and technique for beginners was shared and really well communicated and so, our lumps of clay soon turned into pots (ok, so my hubby’s gained a lip and took on the master shape of a jug…an intentional design so he says!). We were so lucky to have received this experience as a Christmas gift voucher but we’ll definitely be visiting again in the future, in fact my daughter’s heading back with a group of friends for her 12th birthday party!’
