Gillian’s blog

Gillian still making fantastic pots on the wheel at Eastnor Pottery after 15 years of visitingGillian has been visiting Eastnor Pottery every other month for the past 15 years. She is a  valued customer and as a result of her hours & hours on the potter’s wheel, has become a very proficient thrower, able to pot to order.

She uses what she makes to serve food and jokes that when she brakes her crockery, she just visits Eastnor to make some more!

Occasionally, Gillian blogs about what and why she’s making. She writes here about a selection of jugs made on her last visit to the Pottery.

Creative writing morning

Logo of Creative Writing Coach Business StorySpace

Our small but perfectly formed team headed to Leominster in January for a spot of CPD with storyteller and writer Carol Graham.

She put together a morning of literary activities and exercises designed to develop and explore our creative writing skills. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time with Carol and my personal favourite with reference to the editing process:

‘Words are like clay, you can add to them or take them away to create an effect’

Goldilocks & the three bears

Early years clay project exploring language and communication at LPS HerefordshireWe regularly visit Nursery settings all over the West Midlands creating clay work and exploring creative approaches to learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Kipper and Elmer groups at Ledbury Primary School Nursery are learning about the world via the topic of bears. The bear theme has provided a wealth of inspiration and learning opportunities for our clay work: We’ve made porridge bowls on the potter’s wheel, sang ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’ and built a collaborative mud mound for ‘the bear who went over the mountain’.

Super imagination, great conversation and sophisticated use of language. Here are a few nuggets:

Have you dug this clay from the ground Jon the Potter?’

‘I’ve made a crisp’ shows a flattened flake of clay then reaches for the water un-prompted ‘look at my hands – I’ve made some porridge’

‘It goes really hard when it dries’

‘Can we make a clay table?’

Here’s the obligatory Facebook photo album.

I know it’s a long way off, but if you fancied experiencing the delights of the Potter’s wheel for your Christmas 2016 office do – contact the Pottery NOW to avoid disappointment!
