Ledbury Primary School Nursery

Jon the Potter at Ledbury Primary School Nursery

Pleased as punch to be back at LPS working with the children and staff in the Nursery. This is the fourth year in succession we have run the project exploring language and communication within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) via the medium of clay. Parents and carers are also encouraged to stay and work with their children.Create shapes in clay at Ledbury Primary School NurseryEastnor Pottery with Ledbury Primary School Nursery

The sessions have proved extremely successful, growing in popularity with parents year by year. The first session this time around was no exception and we had a full house of young potters and their significant grown ups making clay pizza, cakes and pottery monsters.

Here are a few nuggets of conversation:

“my clay is cold”

cherry pizza….I like our pizzas…..snake cherry and splat pizza”

“I’ve made a little cake…I’m going to make my big cake…..I need one more cherry….You cant eat the mud!…one cherry squished…How did you cut your cake like a pizza?”

Engineers make for excellent potters

Great weekend holdiay at Eastnor Pottery

This couple spent a weekend break in Herefordshire, visiting attractions and sampling local activities. They spent the morning at Westons Cider before making the 15 minute journey to Eastnor Pottery having discovered us on Trip Advisor. They took to the potter’s wheel like ducks to water, creating magnificent shapes and technicaly difficult forms.

It came as no surprise they were both mechanical engineers who, in our experience completely understand the forces at work on the potter’s wheel. Oh, and they were such lovely people too! Well done you two.

Expériences de Poterie

Pottery students painting brilliant pots

These two mums of French origin were keen to try one of our dedicated potter’s wheel days but, due to the limitations of the school day, couldn’t commit to the full day experience.

We pride ourselves on our flexibility and, on this occasion were able to offer them x2 half day sessions to fit around dropping off and collecting their young children.

They made, turned and painted some mighty fine mugs and bowls – all under the expert tutelage of Ethan. I’m sure the ladies will be back to further develope their potter’s wheel skills and take advantage of our hourly rate we reserve for those who have completed our potter’s wheel workshops.

Children’s workshops in the ½ term Holiday

Squirrel away!

Wed 28th Oct 2015

Squirrels and their winter stores will provide both inspiration and theme for the Autumnal inspired children’s pottery sessions at Eastnor Pottery in the forthcoming ½ term holiday. Squirrel Away will enable participants to sample the delights of the potter’s wheel and other pottery making techniques.

Jon ‘the potter’ Williams and his team of expert pottery staff will be on hand to help youngsters make a small terracotta storage bowl on the potter’s wheel. The children will also get to model a clay rodent as part of their design.

“The children’s creations will be fired and ready for collection from the Pottery in a month’s time when Autumn will be well and truly established” commented Jon “once the children have collected their masterpieces they might want to gather autumn leaves to put into their creation, or acorns..or sweets or whatever!” he continued.

1.5 hr sessions commence at 11.30am (4-8yrs) and 2pm for the 9-12yr age group, although these age ranges are not strictly adhered to as younger and older siblings are always welcome on any session.

Places cost £15 per child with a 10% discount for x3 or more places booked. Telephone and email booking essential: Tel: 01531 633886 e: admin@eastnorpottery.co.uk

Don’t worry if you can’t make this date, we’ll be running our family drop-in sessions the rest of the week – Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm.
