Devonshire Junior Academy WW2 commemoration

WW2 poppy tile panel made by YR6 at Devonshire Academy in SmethwickWe recently enjoyed collaborating with YR6 at Devonshire Junior School in Smethwick to make this magnificent poppy tile panel.

Year 6 created the art work to remember local fallen heros from World War 2, each student making a tile, each student with an individual story to illustrate.

Here’s an example of the sort of thing the children were looking at – an inspiring tale of a WW2 pilot published in the Black Country Bugle in July 2004.

Busy Busy Bees

Busy bees day nursery visit Eastnor Pottery for teambuilding event

We had great fun working with this group of nursery managers from Busy Bees Childcare. The team get together on a regular basis and at Christmas, they schedule an extra special activity to mark the festive season. This year they chose to make pots at Eastnor Pottery on no less than nine potter’s wheels we provided for them.

The team were in great spirits and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of wrestling the spinning mud. I think we only had to use the naughty corner once! ;)

The ceramic results of their labour will be fired, glazed and returned  – serving as a permanent reminder of their creative and fun 2016 Christmas party.

Hens in the making

Clay themed Hen Party at Eastnor Pottery

We had decided Hayley’s pottery hen party would be the final event of the season to be held in our lovely ‘Potting Tent’ marquee on the Pottery lawn. We assumed that by the end of October, the conditions would be too cold and uncomfortable out there for our guests to get the most from their clay experience.

That was before the decking went down and we discovered the positive thermal effect of fan heaters!

Get your Ghost on at Eastnor Pottery with our Hen Parties

Here we are at the beginning of December and the Potting Tent is still going strong as an attractive and creative environment for pottery workshops and special occasions.

Hayley and her hens had a fab time in the Potting Tent making hollow sculptures and taking turns on the potter’s wheels – no extra layers of clothing required!

Intergenerational clay

Big family groups taking to clay at Eastnor Pottery

We love it when large family groups choose pottery as the activity to mark an anniversary or special occasion.

Grandad Jim was 70 years young last month and wanted somewhere equidistant for the Stoke and Bristol family contingent to travel to mark his special day. It turns out Eastnor Pottery was geographically on the nail!

Jim’s daughter Ruth gave us a glowing review on Trip Advisor:

“We have spent a fantastic afternoon at Eastnor pottery with Jon & his team for my dad’s 70th birthday. We wanted an activity to suit and inspire all ages and they didn’t disappoint. The pottery studio itself, is a beautiful creative space and the team guided us through making pinch pots/creatures, unphased by there being grandparents, adults, teens and tots all in one group. They were really flexible on the package we wanted and all this contributed to a wonderful family memory we will remember everytime we look at our creations. We would definitely recommend a visit or for a group activity or party”
