Alderman Knight pottery session

a clay owl made by a student from alderman knight special school in tewkesbury. she was part of a group working with jon the potter at eastnor pottery and the flying potterThe young people from the Alderman Knight Special School in Tewkesbury visited Eastnor Pottery in the week. The children had a regular horse riding session in the morning and then called by the Pottery for a clay workshop in the afternoon. A rare break in the wet weather allowed the group to picnic on our lawn in glorious sunshine.

The students were treated to a coil-pot demo before getting stuck into the technique themselves. They made some wonderful objects including an elephant, mug and my favourite, this owl.

Pottery hybrids out of the kiln

Bishops Cleeve Hybrid AnimalsHere are the fantastic, fired results from the Bishops Cleeve hybrid animal workshops which took place recently. To see the rest of the photos, please go to the Facebook album.

Here’s what Carol, arts co-ordinator had to say about the children’s responses to the fired work:

“Just wanted to tell you what a buzz the kids had today when they came to name their animals! The Art Exhibition looks wonderful with work up by every child in the school. The overwhelming feeling from all was that the glaze makes all the difference and a step beyond the normal primary experience of clay! We put out all the Roman Soldiers too and they look stunning! There was another picture in the press of you and a couple of kids. Thank Gemma for doing such a great job wrapping up the beasties. All safe and sound.”

Pottery at headteachers conference

headteacher julie displays her clay masterpiece at headteachers conference in herefordshireSpent a short but ultra productive evening in the bar at The Leadership Trust near Ross on Wye. Myself and a few other creative practitioners were there to offer a little light entertainment for a group of Herefordshire head teachers, before they sat down to dinner. Julie, head at Ledbury Primary School and pictured above was the first brave soul to throw a pot on the potter’s wheel. She set the bar very high indeed with everybody else achieving an equally amazing standard of success.

Also on the bill ‘The Fetch Theatre Company’with an assortment of totally awesome puppets created by creative director Purvin. Check out these examples of his work.

Hesters’ collaborative animals

Hesters Way Collaborative ButterflyI spent a busy and productive couple of days working with children and staff at Hesters Way Primary School in Cheltenham. This has been my second project with the school this year and this time each year group made a collaborative terracotta animal. We ended up with an owl, elephant, caterpiller, butterfly, fish, tortoise and dragon. All the children’s creations are drying nicely and you can take a peep at the unfired work by visiting the photo album we’ve created.
